THE WAY TO ETERNAL LIFE
Scripture Reading: Matthew 19:16-22
Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” Matthew 19:16
The Lord desires that all people will find a way to know and serve Him. The question in our passage for today was asked by a rich young ruler. He was a sincere man looking for the way to eternal life.
All over the world, people are seeking the way to God. Human beings have always felt the need for some salvation and have always been seeking an answer to the question, ‘What shall I do that I may have eternal life’?
Nothing is more comical than being lost and seeking guidance and direction from another lost person. Has it ever happened to you before? Where you got lost and asked a passerby for directions, and even though he or she didn’t know the way, they offered you some direction which landed you way off target. Imagine that you continued on that route till you met another person who further complicated your journey with a new set of wrong directions.
People are looking for salvation from persons who are lost and do not know the way. They read books written by people who don’t know God yet offer guidance to Him. They run the risk of acquiring wrong beliefs and pursuing paths that do not lead to the one true God. Seeking direction from God from people who really don’t know the way to Him only leads to confusion.
The Holy Spirit is the one true guide who leads us to Jesus Christ. He shows us how to have a relationship with God. He works in our hearts to bring us to repentance and give us a revelation of who Jesus is. The Holy Spirit gives us guidance to eternal life.
In addition to salvation, the Holy Spirit leads us to enjoy the fruits of a godly life. Living a godly life on earth is better than living one in sin fraught with guilt and condemnation. The Holy Spirit guides us to make godly choices that bring joy, peace and satisfaction.
God can satisfy the needs of those looking for salvation, as well as those looking for a better life. Depending on the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are delivered from venturing to the wrong people or places to obtain salvation or a better life.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I receive the guidance of your Holy Spirit. Lead me towards life and abundance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
