GOD IS WITH YOU
Scripture Reading: Psalm 4
Many say, “Who will show us any good?” Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us. Psalm 4:6
As more people joined up with Absalom against David, the people in David’s camp started feeling despondent. Every day, they heard of some important person defecting from their side to join their opponents. Some of David’s most trusted advisors broke camp and joined the rebellion. David’s leaders reported what his people were saying to him.
Who will show us any good? In their despair, David’s troops wondered whether they would have a good break. David’s people were so used to disappointment that they couldn’t imagine the situation turning to their advantage. The words indicate that this discouraging statement was made over and over by the grumblers. The more they complained, the more others took up the chorus. Have you ever felt as if nothing good was happening to you? Each one of us has struggled with times when we have had a long streak of bad news.
Lord, lift the light of your countenance on us. As David pondered the sense of defeat that had engulfed his camp, he called on the Lord for His favour. David’s prayer was for the Lord to smile on him. He wanted to see God do something to assure him that everything would be alright. David’s prayer is part of Israel’s priestly blessing that the Lord required the priests to speak over the people.
Today, we can also ask the Lord to smile upon us. He is the Lord who turns the light into darkness. For a season, you may hear words of despair and see treachery all around you. You may feel as if your situation continues to deteriorate. Yet, in the midst of all that you’re going through, the Lord has not left your side. His eyes see through the darkness surrounding you. His presence is real. He is more than all those who have abandoned you.
When people ask, ‘Who will show us any good?’ the Lord answers, ‘I will.’ He will turn your repeated voices of despair into a shout of praise.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, your presence with me is more than thousands against me. Smile with favour upon me. In Jesus’ name, *Amen.*_
