WORSHIPPING JESUS
Then they brought him to Jesus. And they threw their own clothes on the colt, and they set Jesus on him. And as He went, many spread their clothes on the road. Luke 19:35–36
The two disciples who Jesus sent to go and fetch the donkey arrived with the donkey. They fulfilled their mission for the Lord. The disciples brought the donkey they had loosened to the One who had asked for him.
There is a lesson there. The Lord sets us free so that we can come into His presence. He does not free us to go and roam the world as we want. Instead, our deliverance brings us directly into His presence.
After presenting the donkey to Jesus, the disciples did two significant things
1. First, they took off their clothes and laid them on the young donkey.
This was an act of surrender and worship from the disciples. The disciples stripped themselves of the clothes that gave them comfort so that Christ could sit comfortably on the donkey. That is how we submit to the Lord in worship. We take off what is precious to us and place it at the disposal of Jesus.
2. Secondly, they placed Jesus on the donkey.
In setting Jesus on the colt, they took the initiative to acclaim Jesus as the promised Messiah. Earlier, the Apostle Peter had declared that Jesus was the Christ. Now, by this act, the disciples of Jesus were together proclaiming Jesus as the Messiah – the Christ.
As the crowds watched what the disciples of Jesus were doing, they followed their example. Many people spread their clothes on the road for Jesus to ride on. The people who laid their garments before the Lord recognized Him as the promised King. They came to that realization because the disciples of Jesus set the right example.
There’s a lesson there. People come to know the Lord by the witness we give of the Lord. When we truly live for the Lord Jesus, we make it easy for others to live for Him.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I recognize Jesus Christ as my Lord and King. Help me tell the world about Him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
