WALK IN AUTHORITY
Scripture Reading: Luke 10:1-20
And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. *Luke 10:18-19
Jesus sent seventy of His disciples to go out and evangelise in towns ahead of Him. After the mission, the disciples of Jesus returned with amazing news. They saw God’s power through them in ways they hadn’t experienced before, with people healed and spirits being cast out.
One can understand the joy of the seventy as they returned to report their victories to Jesus. The Lord had given them power and authority to heal, to cast out demons, and to preach the Word, and they had been successful. The disciples did not take the credit for their victory. They knew the source of their power. They noted that they did all of the miracles in the name of Jesus.
Jesus responded to their joy with a spiritual perspective. The Lord said He had seen Satan falling like lightning from heaven. The disciples had seen individual victories from city to city, but Jesus saw these victories as part of a war that dethroned and defeated Satan.
We must not see our spiritual victories as only related to us. God gives us victories to manifest the victories He has already won for us. Each victory is important to the Lord, no matter how insignificant it may seem in our eyes.
Jesus understood that after the victory His disciples had experienced, they still had spiritual battles ahead of them. The enemy is relentless and will not stop attacking us. To assure us of the certainty of future victory, Jesus gave all authority to all of us who trust in Him. To us who are His, the Lord has given us authority over all evil forces. And nothing shall by any means hurt us.
The Christian has formidable power and protection in Christ. He is the source of our power, our victory and our authority. In Him we live, and move, and have our being. And once we are anchored in Him and make Him the bedrock or foundation of every spiritual warfare, we will go from victory to victory and nothing shall by any means hurt us. That is the promise and assurance we have from Christ, our Saviour.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, you have given me power over evil spirits. I trample over all their works. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
