THE LORD DESERVES OUR PRAISE

Scripture Reading:  Psalm 150:1-6

Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty firmament! Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness! Psalm 150:1-2

The last chapter of the book of Psalms – Psalm 150, is a joyful call to offer exuberant praise to God. It invites the worshipper to celebrate Him for what He has done, regardless of their location. The charge is to praise the Lord with instruments and with dance.

There are four important points to note in today’s passage:

1. Praise Him in His sanctuary. This refers to praising God in His dwelling place – Heaven. It also means praising God in the place set apart for His worship such as a church or with other believers. His word affirms that our bodies are His temple since the Holy Spirit indwells us. We must praise Him with our bodies also.

2. Praise Him in His mighty firmament. The firmament is part of God’s creation. This is a call for all the heavenly bodies to join in praising God. Whether we are on Earth, in space, or on another planet, we must praise God. Wherever we find ourselves in the vast expanse of God’s creation, praise must proceed from our hearts and lips to the Lord.

3. Praise Him for His mighty works. God’s works include His works in creation as well as His continual work in our lives. He deserves all the credit for both the mundane and seemingly insignificant things, as well as the mighty works He accomplishes in and through us. We praise Him for His works in the past and in the present.

4. Praise Him according to His excellent greatness. We look at God and marvel at who He is – He is excellent in greatness. That means His greatness is beyond greatness. The measure of praise we give God must far exceed the praise we could ever give to other people and the things that make an impression on us. He is more powerful and awesome than all.

Praise the Lord for all His goodness to you.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, you are excellent in all your works. I praise and magnify your name from deep within my soul. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
