SPIRITUAL WARFARE
Scripture Reading: Exodus 7
And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt. But Pharaoh will not heed you, so that I may lay My hand on Egypt and bring My armies and My people, the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. Exodus 7:3–4
God prepared Moses for what lay ahead of him. He wanted Moses to know that the contest he was going to be engaged in, would not be resolved with one action. There would be a series of actions and counteractions that would escalate until Israel left Egypt.
On the physical plane, it would appear that the deliverance of Israel from Egypt was just another earthly conflict. But what was to happen between Israel and Egypt was deeply spiritual. It touched on God’s rule and sovereignty on Earth. Though Pharaoh was an earthly ruler he was a devoted agent of spiritual forces in revolt against God’s rule. Everything God does must be seen in the light of this epic spiritual conflict.
I will harden Pharaoh’s heart. Why would God choose to harden Pharaoh’s heart? The goal was to get the children of Israel out of Egypt into the Promised Land, but what had hardened Pharaoh’s heart had to do with all that? God hardened Pharaoh’s heart because Pharaoh had chosen to harden his heart. He permitted Pharaoh to walk the path he had chosen and allowed him to be himself.
On many occasions, God leaves people to have their own way though it does not please Him. When they stubbornly insist on doing what pleases them, God allows them to have what they want and with it, the undesirable consequences they come with.
I will multiply my signs and wonders. The Lord promised to increase His miracles in proportion to the hardening of Pharaoh’s heart. That meant when Pharaoh took his wickedness a notch higher, God would take His miracles many notches higher.
God does the same for us. When the enemy rises up against us, God does not sit back and do nothing. He comes to our rescue and responds with a greater demonstration of His might and power. When we are in the centre of His will, He escalates His supernatural interventions to enable us to surmount the challenges we face.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, you are the God of Power and Strength. Multiply your signs and wonders in my life. In Jesus’ name, *Amen.*_
