JESUS IS LORD
Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:1-11
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:10-11
This passage in the book of Philippians is one of the earliest articles of faith of Christianity. It addresses very important truths about the name of Jesus.
1. The name of Jesus demands allegiance. Every knee must bow to it, in this age and in the age to come. We become Christians by pledging our loyalty to Christ – we make Him our Lord. That means He becomes our owner. That is why the early apostles of Christ called themselves, ‘slaves of Christ’. It meant that we have no life, but His life; no will, but His will.
Christianity is not a religious preference. It is the surrender of our lives and existence to Christ. We die so that He can live in us.
2. The name of Jesus has universal power. It resonates in both the spiritual and natural worlds. It transcends all jurisdictions and dimensions – heaven, earth and under the earth. The laws of a nation lose their power outside of the territory of that nation. But the name of Jesus is unlimited. There is no realm that is untouched by the name of the Lord.
3. The name of Jesus will be acknowledged by all. Every tongue will confess the Lordship of Christ. There are many who despise His name. In the end, they will have to concede that He is Lord when they appear before His judgment seat. Whether of their own volition or against their will, all people will at some point confess that Jesus is Lord.
4. The name of Jesus brings glory to God the Father. When we proclaim that Jesus is Lord, we are giving glory to God the Father. When we honour Jesus, we are honouring the Godhead. It is not in conflict with Jehovah; it is an affirmation of the Father’s glory.
The name of Jesus is the name above every other name. Proclaim Him as Lord over your life and the Lord over all things.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, you have exalted Christ in glory and power. To Him all knees bow, and all tongues confess. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
