A GENERATIONAL PROMISE
Scripture Reading: Genesis 12
Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants, I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. Genesis 12:7
On this special day, as we celebrate the anniversary of the International Central Gospel Church, it is appropriate that we consider Abraham’s experience in Canaan land as it carries significant lessons for each of us.
Abraham arrived at Canaan without knowing it was the land that God had in mind to give him. He had left the land of His birth and wandered from place to place, unaware of where his journey would end. It was only after Abraham got to the land of Canaan that the Lord revealed His purposes to Him.
That is often how God works to bring His children to their appointed place. There may seem to be no meaning, no purpose and no agenda to the events, situations and places in your life. But God can draw meaning from these and ultimately reveal to you his hand at work to bring you to your Canaan.
Often as we trust the Lord and follow His leading, we do not appreciate all the progress we’re making. When the Lord is leading, all we must do is keep our eyes on Him until He opens our eyes to see how far He has brought us.
Four years ago, the Lord brought us to a place just like He did for Abraham. We started the International Central Gospel Church on the 26th of February 1984. Our Canaan was a tiny classroom without electricity. It didn’t seem like much at the start. To onlookers, it may not have seemed like much either. But today, we remember the promise-keeping God, who has kept us on our journey. What He did for Abraham, He did for us and He will do for you as well. You may be in your Canaan land at the moment, unawares. But for all you know, you’re just where God wants you to be in your land of promise, purpose and His habitation.
Abraham might have thought that he was not making any progress, yet he was. There were no signposts along the way for him to track the journey. Walking with God is an act of faith. Following His leading requires trust and confidence in His character. Can the God who guided Abraham in His day and who has guided the International Central Gospel Church along this 40-year journey do the same for you? Yes, He can, and He desires to do so. As a church, we are grateful for where God has brought us. I am confident that He will grant you that same testimony in your enterprises, endeavours and aspirations.
Prayer: _Heavenly Father, thank you for leading me along the journey. I receive your promised inheritance to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
