AT command set

The “Hayes Command Set,” a foundational standard for modem communication, comprises a collection of commands that initiate different operations and facilitate control of the modem.

Starting with “AT,” these commands allow users to manage modem functions efficiently.

For instance, “ATDT” instructs the modem to dial a number using touch-tone dialing, while “ATDP” specifies the use of pulse dialing instead.

This set of commands simplifies interactions with modems, enabling users to connect to networks, initiate data transfers, and configure settings with a series of straightforward text instructions.

As a result, the Hayes Command Set not only became instrumental in the development of early telecommunications but also laid the groundwork for the protocols that enable modern communication technologies.
