THE RIGHT PRIORITY
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. – Matthew 6:33
Having the desire to achieve great things can be laudable, but we must not allow our desires to lead us into the wrong pursuits. Setting your vision for this year must be based on the right priorities.
We must do first things first. No matter how late we are at learning the alphabets, we still have to begin with, ‘A, B, C…’ That principle doesn’t change because we went to school late. Similarly, when we want to learn the numbers, we begin with, ‘1, 2, 3…’ No matter how eager we are to know numbers, we still start with the basics and build on them.
In both instances, we start at a point, leading us to the next logical step and we build on that foundation. Similarly, when we want to achieve our goals in a year, we must start at the beginning. We must not be so much in a haste to ‘make it’ that we miss the most important steps along the way. To set our priorities for this year, we need to start from the most important point and build upon that.
Our Lord Jesus gave us the first thing to seek. He said our priorities must be set by putting the things of God first in our lives. In our rush to acquire the comforts of life, we may be tempted to push the things of God to the back burner. However, as Christians, the first things we must seek are not the pressing things we want to get. We start by seeking first the things of God. We then build on that to get the other things we want.
Here are some ways to make God first in your life:
▪Spend time daily with God.
▪Share the word of God with someone.
▪Serve God with your time and talents.
▪Support the work of God financially.
These simple steps will help each of us to have a clear sense of priority for our lives.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are the priority of my life. I set my heart to seek you first in all I do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
