STRONGS G4285:
προηγέομαι,
προηγοῦμαι;
to go before and show the way, to go before and lead, to go before as leader (
Herodotus 2, 48; often in
Xenophon; besides in
Aristophanes,
Polybius,
Plutarch, the
Sept., others):
τῇ τιμή ἀλλήλους προηγούμενοι, one going before another as an example of deference (
A. V. in honor preferring one another (on the dative cf.
Winer's Grammar, § 31, 6 a.)),
Romans 12:10. The Greek writers connect this verb now with the dative (
Aristophanes,
Plutarch, 1195;
Polybius 6, 53, 8; etc.), now with the genitive (
Diodorus 1, 87); see
προέρχομαι, 2 a.
