Meaning

denotes "a whole burnt offering" (holos, "whole," kautos, for kaustos, a verbal adjective from kaio, "to burn"), i.e., "a victim," the whole of which is burned, as in Exo 30:20, Lev 5:12, Lev 23:8, Lev 23:25, Lev 23:27. It is used in Mar 12:33, by the scribe who questioned the Lord as to the first commandment in the Law, and in Heb 10:6, Heb 10:8, RV, "whole burnt offerings." See OFFERING.
