Timothy 2

English Standard Version (ESV)

Back to Bible
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
ⓐ for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly andⓑ dignified in every way.
This is good, andⓒ it is pleasing in the sight ofⓓ God our Savior,
who desiresⓔ all people to be saved andⓕ to come toⓖ the knowledge of the truth.
Forⓗ there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man[1] Christ Jesus,
ⓘ who gave himself as a ransom for all, which isⓙ the testimony givenⓚ at the proper time.
ⓛ For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (ⓜI am telling the truth, I am not lying),ⓝ a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
I desire then thatⓞ in every place the men should pray,ⓟ liftingⓠ holy hands without anger or quarreling;
likewise alsoⓡ that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire,
ⓢ but with what is proper for women who profess godliness — with good works.
Let a woman learn quietlyⓣ with all submissiveness.
ⓤ I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.
ⓥ For Adam was formed first,ⓦ then Eve;
and Adam was not deceived, butⓧ the woman was deceived and became a transgressor.
Yet she will be saved throughⓨ childbearing — if they continue inⓩ faith and love and holiness, with self-control.
