Mark 3

Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

Back to Bible
Jesus ⓖ entered the synagogue ⓗ again, and a man was there who had a shriveled ⓘ hand.
In order to accuse ⓙ him, they were watching him closely ⓚ to see whether he would heal ⓛ him on the Sabbath. ⓜ
He told the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand before us.”
Then he said to them, “Is it lawful ⓝ to do good ⓐ on the Sabbath or to do evil, ⓑ to save life ⓒ or to kill?” ⓓ But they were silent. ⓔ
After looking around at them with anger, ⓕ he was grieved at the hardness ⓖ of their hearts and told the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored. ⓗ
Immediately the Pharisees ⓘ went out and started plotting ⓙ with the Herodians ⓚ against him, how they might kill ⓛ him.
Jesus ⓜ departed with his disciples to the sea, and a large crowd followed from Galilee, ⓝ and a large crowd followed from Judea, ⓐ
Jerusalem, ⓑ Idumea, beyond the Jordan, ⓒ and around Tyre ⓓ and Sidon. ⓔ The large crowd came to him because they heard about everything he was doing.
Then he told his disciples to have a small boat ⓕ ready for him, so that the crowd wouldn’t crush him.
Since he had healed ⓖ many, all who had diseases were pressing toward him to touch ⓗ him.
Whenever the unclean ⓘ spirits ⓙ saw him, they fell down ⓚ before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God!” ⓛ
And he would strongly warn ⓜ them not to make him known. ⓝ
Jesus ⓐ went up the mountain ⓑ and summoned those he wanted, and they came to him.
He appointed twelve, whom he also named apostles, [1] ⓒ to be with him, to send them out to preach, ⓓ
and to have authority to [2] drive out demons.
He appointed the Twelve: [3] ⓔ To Simon, ⓕ he gave the name Peter; ⓖ
and to James ⓗ the son of Zebedee, ⓘ and to his brother John, ⓙ he gave the name “Boanerges” (that is, “Sons of Thunder” ⓚ);
Andrew; ⓛ Philip ⓜ and Bartholomew; Matthew ⓝ and Thomas; ⓐ James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot,
and Judas Iscariot, ⓑ who also betrayed him.
Jesus entered a house, and the crowd gathered again so that they were not even able to eat. [4]
When his family ⓒ heard this, they set out to restrain him, because they said, “He’s out of his mind.” ⓓ
The scribes ⓔ who had come down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,”  ⓕ and, “He drives out ⓖ demons ⓗ by the ruler ⓘ of the demons.” ⓙ
So he summoned ⓚ them and spoke to them in parables: ⓛ “How can Satan ⓜ drive out Satan? ⓝ
If a kingdom ⓐ is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand but is finished.
But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his possessions unless he first ties up ⓑthe strong man. Then he can plunder his house.
“Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for all sins and whatever blasphemies ⓒ they utter.
But whoever blasphemes ⓓagainst the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, ⓔbut is guilty ⓕof an eternal sin” [5] ⓖ  —
because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.” ⓗ
His ⓘ mother ⓙ and his brothers ⓚ came, and standing outside, they sent word to him and called him.
A crowd was sitting around him and told him, “Look, your mother, your brothers, ⓛ and your sisters [6] are outside asking for you.”
He replied to them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”
Looking at those sitting in a circle around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! ⓜ
Whoever does the will of God ⓝis my brother and sister and mother.”
