Jonah 2

Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

Back to Bible
1 Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish: ⓕ
2 I called to the LORD in my distress, ⓖ and he answered me. I cried out for help from deep inside [1] Sheol; ⓗ you heard my voice. ⓘ
3 You threw me into the depths, ⓙ into the heart of the seas, ⓚ and the current [2] overcame me. All your breakers and your billows swept over me. ⓛ
4 But I said, “I have been banished ⓜ from your sight, ⓝ yet I will look once more [3] toward your holy temple. ⓐ
5 The water engulfed me up to the neck; [4] ⓑ the watery depths overcame me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. ⓒ
6 I sank to the foundations of the mountains, ⓓ the earth’s gates shut behind me forever! ⓔ Then you raised my life ⓕ from the Pit, LORD my God! ⓖ
7 As my life was fading away, ⓗ I remembered the LORD, ⓘ and my prayer came to you, ⓙ to your holy temple. ⓚ
8 Those who cherish worthless idols ⓛ abandon their faithful love, ⓜ
9 but as for me, I will sacrifice ⓝ to you with a voice of thanksgiving. ⓐ I will fulfill ⓑ what I have vowed. Salvation [5] belongs to the LORD.” ⓒ
10 Then the LORD commanded the fish, ⓓ and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
