Hosea 8

Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

Back to Bible
Put the horn to your mouth! ⓜ One like an eagle comes against the house of the LORD, ⓝ because they transgress my covenant ⓐ and rebel against my law. ⓑ
Israel cries out to me, ⓒ “My God, we know you!”
Israel has rejected what is good; ⓓ an enemy will pursue him.
They have installed kings, ⓔ but not through me. They have appointed leaders, but without my approval. They make their silver and gold ⓕ into idols for themselves for their own destruction. [1]
Your calf-idol [2] ⓖ is rejected, Samaria. ⓗ My anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of innocence? ⓘ
For this thing is from Israel — a craftsman made it, ⓙ and it is not God. The calf of Samaria will be smashed to bits!
Indeed, they sow the wind ⓚ and reap the whirlwind. ⓛ There is no standing grain; what sprouts fails to yield flour. ⓜ Even if they did, foreigners would swallow it up.
Israel is swallowed up! ⓝ Now they are among the nations like discarded pottery. ⓐ
For they have gone up to Assyria ⓑ like a wild donkey going off on its own. Ephraim has paid for love. ⓒ
Even though they hire lovers among the nations, I will now round them up, and they will begin to decrease in number ⓓ under the burden of the king and leaders. ⓔ
When Ephraim multiplied his altars for sin, ⓕ they became his altars for sinning.
Though I were to write out for him ten thousand points of my instruction, ⓖ they would be [3] regarded as something strange.
Though they offer sacrificial gifts [4] ⓗ and eat the flesh, ⓘ the LORD does not accept them. Now he will remember their guilt ⓙ and punish their sins; ⓚ they will return to Egypt. ⓛ
Israel has forgotten his Maker ⓜ and built palaces; ⓝ Judah has also multiplied fortified cities. I will send fire on their cities, ⓐ and it will consume their citadels.
