Hosea 5

Christian Standard Bible (CSB)

Back to Bible
Hear this, priests! ⓑ Pay attention, house of Israel! Listen, royal house! For the judgment applies to you because you have been a snare at Mizpah ⓒ and a net spread out on Tabor.
Rebels ⓓ are deeply involved in slaughter; ⓔ I will be a punishment for all of them. [1]
I know Ephraim, ⓕ and Israel is not hidden from me. For now, Ephraim, ⓖ you have acted promiscuously; Israel is defiled.
Their actions do not allow them to return to their God, ⓗ for a spirit of promiscuity is among them, ⓘ and they do not know the LORD. ⓙ
Israel’s arrogance testifies against them. [2] ⓚ Both Israel and Ephraim stumble because of their iniquity; ⓛ even Judah will stumble with them. ⓜ
They go with their flocks and herds to seek the LORD ⓝ but do not find him; ⓐ he has withdrawn from them. ⓑ
They betrayed the LORD; ⓒ indeed, they gave birth to illegitimate children. ⓓ Now the New Moon ⓔ will devour them along with their fields. ⓕ
Blow the horn in Gibeah, ⓖ the trumpet in Ramah; ⓗ raise the war cry in Beth-aven: ⓘ Look behind you, [3] Benjamin! ⓙ
Ephraim will become a desolation ⓚ on the day of punishment; ⓛ I announce what is certain among the tribes of Israel. ⓜ
The princes of Judah are like those who move boundary markers; ⓝ I will pour out my fury ⓐ on them like water. ⓑ
Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, ⓒ for he is determined to follow what is worthless. [4]
So I am like rot to Ephraim ⓓ and like decay to the house of Judah.
When Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah his wound, Ephraim went to Assyria ⓔ and sent a delegation to the great king. [5] ⓕ But he cannot cure you or heal your wound. ⓖ
For I am like a lion to Ephraim ⓗ and like a young lion to the house of Judah. Yes, I will tear them to pieces and depart. ⓘ I will carry them off, and no one can rescue them. ⓙ
I will depart and return to my place until they recognize their guilt and seek my face; ⓚ they will search for me in their distress. ⓛ
