¹ For her house leads down to death And her paths lead to the dead;

² None who go to her return again, Nor do they regain the paths of life—

³ So you will walk in the way of good men [that is, those of personal integrity, moral courage and honorable character], And keep to the paths of the righteous.

⁴ For the upright [those who are in right standing with God] will live in the land And those [of integrity] who are blameless [in God's sight] will remain in it;

⁵ But the wicked will be cut off from the land And the treacherous shall be [forcibly] uprooted and removed from it.

⁶ My son, do not forget my[1] teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments;

⁷ For length of days and years of life [worth living] And tranquility and prosperity [the wholeness of life's blessings] they will add to you.

⁸ Do not let mercy and kindness and truth leave you [instead let these qualities define you]; Bind them [securely] around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.

⁹ So find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man.

¹⁰ Trust in and rely confidently on the LORD with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding.

¹¹ [2] In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].
