2 Kings 13

Amplified Bible, 2015 (AMP)

Back to Bible
1 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; And let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns."
2 Let the sea roar, and all the things that fill it; Let the field rejoice, and all that is in it.
3 Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the LORD; For He comes to judge and govern the earth.
4 O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness endures forever.
5 Then say, "Save us, O God of our salvation; Gather us together and rescue us from the nations, That we may give thanks to Your holy name, And glory in Your praise."
6 Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, Forever and ever. And all the people said, "Amen," and praised the LORD.
7 So David left Asaph and his relatives there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD to minister before the ark continually, as each day's work required;
8 and Obed-edom with his sixty-eight relatives; also Obed-edom the son of Jeduthun, and Hosah, were to be gatekeepers.
9 David left Zadok the priest and his relatives the priests before the dwelling place (tabernacle) of the LORD in the high place which was at Gibeon,
10 to offer burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of burnt offering continually, morning and evening, in accordance with all that is written in the Law of the LORD, which He commanded Israel.
11 With them were Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest who were chosen and designated by name, to give thanks to the LORD, for His lovingkindness endures forever.
12 With them were Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those who were to sound aloud, and instruments for [accompanying] the songs of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were to be at the gate.
13 Then all the people departed, each to his house, and David returned [home] to bless his household.
14 As David sat in his house (palace), he said to Nathan the prophet, "Behold, I live in a house of cedars, while the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under tent curtains."
15 Then Nathan said to David, "[1] Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you."
16 But it came about that same night that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,
17 Go and tell David My servant, 'Thus says the LORD, You shall not build a house for Me to dwell in;
18 for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought Israel up [from Egypt] until this day, but I have gone from tent to tent and from one dwelling place to another.
19 Wherever I have walked with all Israel, did I say a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people, saying, 'Why have you not built for Me a house of cedar?'"'
20 Now, therefore, this is what you shall say to My servant David: 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, "I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be leader over My people Israel.
21 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make your name like the name of the great ones of the earth.
22 I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, so that they may live in their own place and not be moved again [nor tremble with fear]; and the[2] wicked will not waste (persecute) them anymore, as formerly,
23 since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel. And I will humble and subdue all your enemies. "Furthermore, I tell you that the LORD will build you a house (a blessed posterity).
24 And it shall come to pass that when your days are completed and you must go to be with your fathers [in death], I will raise up one of your descendants after you, one of your own sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
25 He shall build Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.
