1 When Jobab died, Husham of the land of the Temanites became king in his place.
2 When Husham died, Hadad [I of Edom] the son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the field of Moab, became king in his place; the name of his city was Avith.
3 When Hadad [I] died, Samlah of Masrekah became king in his place.
4 When Samlah died, Shaul of Rehoboth on the River [Euphrates] became king in his place.
5 When Shaul died, Baal-hanan the son of Achbor became king in his place.
6 When Baal-hanan died, Hadad [II] became king in his place; the name of his city was Pai; his wife's name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.
7 Hadad died also. The chiefs of Edom were: chiefs Timna, Aliah, Jetheth,
8 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
9 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
10 Magdiel, and Iram. These are the chiefs of Edom.
11 These are the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,
12 Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
13 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, and Shelah; the three were born to him by Shua's daughter the Canaanitess. Er, Judah's eldest, was evil in the Lord's sight, and He put him to death.
14 Tamar, Judah's daughter-in-law, bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah's sons were five in all.
15 The sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul.
16 The sons of Zerah: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara—five in all.
17 The son of Carmi: Achar, the troubler of Israel, who violated the ban [by taking things from Jericho that had been banned].
18 The son of Ethan: Azariah.
19 The sons of Hezron who were born to him: Jerahmeel, Ram, and Chelubai [that is,[1] Caleb].
20 Ram became the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, leader of the sons of Judah.
21 Nahshon became the father of Salma, Salma became the father of Boaz,
22 Boaz became the father of Obed, and Obed became the father of Jesse.
23 Jesse became the father of Eliab his firstborn, Abinadab the second, Shimea the third,
