AN AMBASSADOR OF THE GOSPEL

Scripture Reading: John 4:1-42

And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” John 4:39

The woman’s testimony at the well affected the people of her city. It must have made a unique impression on them coming from someone whose story they were very familiar with. They knew all about her life and the things she had done, so the fact that they gave her a hearing, regardless, was something of a miracle.

She testified about how Jesus had told her all that she ever did. And although He was conscious of all the details of her life, He treated her with decorum and respect. The way the Lord dealt with this woman is the same way He deals with all of us. God knows our beginning and our end as well as our ups and downs. Though our failures and weaknesses are ever before Him, He loves us despite them all and continually seeks the best for us.

God’s compassion goes beyond our limitations. His mercy outweighs our human frailties. Of course, this is not a ticket to cheapen his extravagant love by living anyhow. In scripture, we find Jesus touching people no one wanted to associate with. From the woman caught in adultery to Zacchaeus and several others, Jesus departed from the religious paradigm of dissociating with those considered sinful and irredeemable.

The people of the village came out and also testified that they believed in Jesus. The transformation they saw in the woman’s life was compelling enough. If His grace had so touched a woman with such a history, then they were willing to believe in Him.

Our lives can also inspire others to believe in God. Consider what the Lord has done for you – the change, His acts of deliverance and the amazing miracles. These are a testament to His work in your life. When people witness these and know who you once were and where you’ve come from, it is a sure invitation for them to seek Christ and desire the living water you have tasted.
The people had not heard from Jesus yet but were willing to believe in Him based on someone’s testimony. When a life has been touched by the Lord, they have an authentic testimony to share. It is a convincing proof that cannot be denied.

May our lives be like that of the Samaritan woman. Many people thirst for God when they look at our lives and our witness. May people be inspired to serve God well because they see us do so and may we be found to be worthy ambassadors of Christ.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for all that you have done for me. Use my testimony to draw people to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
